Driver wins Airtel grand prize

Lilongwe-based minibus driver Ganizani Phiri has emerged the lucky winner of the MK50 million (US$121 359) grand prize of Airtel Malawi’s Tisangalale 50 promotion. The final draw was conducted at Crossroads Hotel where the guest of honour was former official hostess Mama Cecilia Tamanda Kadzamira. Meanwhile, Airtel says it will officially give Phiri K50 million tomorrow in Lilongwe’s Area 25 where he lives.—ROGERS SIULA, Correspondent

Civil servants yet to get July salaries

Days into the new month, a large section of civil servants are yet to receive their salaries, a development Ministry of Finance spokesperson Nations Msowoya says was due to end of year closing processes. “To complete the end of year closing process took time, hence, affecting salary payments,” Msowoya said.—Paida Mpaso, Staff Reporter
